Ryan Nicolas

Ryan Nicolas arrived on January 8, 2009! He weighed 7lbs. 3 oz and was 20 inches long. After arriving at the hospital to be induced at 5 AM, I layed around for a while, getting my IV fluid started and monitors started. They finally started the pitocin around 8 AM. I was only 1 cm dilated. The contractions didn't get too bad at that point. My dr. showed up around 11 AM and said he would just let things proceed along since everything looked good. He came back at lunch and saw I hadn't dilated anymore so he decided to break my water. I told him that I go fast after my water breaks. This was a fact, since my 3 girls had all been born shortly after my water broke.

I don't think he or my nurses believed me! As soon as he left, my contractions were horrendous. I asked for an Epidural, but by the time they came back to tell me I needed to wait until my first IV bag had finished, I started to yell out in pain. They checked me and saw I was 9 centimeter dilated and baby was coming.

They said they called the dr. back and to just breath through each contraction, YEAH RIGHT! This was about 1 hour after he had broke my water. Then I knew it was too late, I needed to push and could not hold back. The nurses came running, and tried to get me to hold off, panting and breathing so I wouldn't have the baby before dr. arrived. DH looked out the window and saw him running across the parking lot :-) He flew in, threw on some scrubs and caught Ryan after just 2 pushes. Ryan had his cord wrapped around his neck and a knot in his cord as well. His face was black and blue from his eyes up, but he was here! So in the end, no pain medicine again :-( All 4 of my kids were born without meds. It hurts!

He scored 9/9 on his apgars, my baby was strong and healthy. Just lucky we got him out when we did.
